Seniors and Retirees are invited to enjoy another morning of conversation and coffee with Pastor Kurt at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 10th here at Spirit of Hope MCC.  This month the group will pick a name and finalize the core values of the Senior’s Group.

The next Discover Spirit of Hope membership class will be held on immediately after morning worship on Sunday, August 15th.  Anyone wanting to know more about our church and denomination or who considering joining Spirit of Hope MCC is invited to attend.  We will provide a light lunch for those attending and spend about 2 hours reviewing the basic information about us.  Those wishing to join can get information about the membership process at the end of class.

Regional Elder Rev. Lillie Brock is returning Spirit of Hope MCC on September 10th and 11th and we invite everyone to join us on that Saturday for information about helping our church to grow spiritually and numerically.   Mark your calendars now – more information will be coming up shortly.  This is a gathering you will not want to miss.

Rev. Delores Berry, an evangelist with MCC that has historic ties to our church is planning a trip to see us on October 3rd.  She will preach and sing on Sunday morning and then also give a concert on Sunday night at 7 pm.   Rev.  Berry is a long-time member of our denomination and comes from the African American church background.  Her voice is dynamic and she is so loving, you will be embraced with the Holy Spirit in all that she does.

Summer Schedule for Bible Study.  Our Sunday night Bible Study will be finishing up our currently study on fear on July 25th.  Bible Study will then take time off during August and come back with a new study in September.   We hope you’ll consider coming again in September as we help one another develop deeper Spiritual Maturity through God’s word.

Our Men’s choir is back to practicing at 6 pm on Thursday nights in preparation for singing on Anniversary Sunday, August 29th  All men who like to sing are invited to join the fun as our director, Dean F, leads us again in some wonderful music and fellowship.   If you’d like to know more, see our director or Minister of Music, Gaylen Bourland.

The Youth are accepting Cell Phones, Ink Jet Cartridges, MP3 Players, IPODS, GPS Devices, Radar Detectors, Digital Cameras, and Video Cameras, laptops, or any other small handheld electronic devices.  Items may be placed in the Gray Recycling Container outside the Fellowship Hall, under the telephone desk on the lower level.   If you have any larger items that will not fit in the box, please deliver them to Scott Manley, If you have difficulty with the stairs, please deliver your items to one of the Youth, and they can deposit in the Recycling Container.  If you have any questions, you can contact Scott personally or at scottmanley@kc.rr.com.

The Spirit of Hope Food Pantry is running low on supplies.  You can assist in this vital ministry by contributing a variety of non-perishable, canned and boxed food items.  All donations are greatly appreciated and can be delivered to the Church office during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 3:30 pm) or brought with you to Church on Sunday.  For more information please contact Ann T.

The General Conference of MCC churches worldwide concluded on July 2, 2010 with some major changes in our structure as a denomination.  These changes should enable our church to respond more quickly to changing ministry needs throughout the world.   In the upcoming Ministry Moments and through a written report, the Lay Delegates, the alternate delegate and Pastor Kurt will inform the church about what they experienced at Conference.   The worship opportunities at this conference were life-changing for some people and being in a country outside the US afforded those in attendance to remember how important our support of ministries in many countries is for others.   We hope you will consider planning now to attend the 25^th General Conference to be held in Chicago, IL  July 1 – 5, 2013.  You will not want to miss that historic gathering.   The delegates and Pastor Kurt would like to thank those who gave to the General Conference Travel Fund for enabling us to attend and bring back to our church a slice of what was experienced in Mexico.

Our Children are a precious resource and it is important to us to provide Christian Educational Opportunities for our young ones.  If you are interested in becoming a Children’s Church teacher please let Kelly D know.  You can drop a note into her inbox in the front office.  All our Children’s Church teachers must submit to a background check and be trained with existing volunteer teachers.

Kelly Ray, Mr. MGRA 2010, will be in the foyer on Sunday, June 6th, selling $20 advance tickets for The Zoey Awards to be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 30^th at Flo’s Cabaret.  Vote for $1 for your favorite nominees.  Spirit of Hope MCC is nominated as is Geneva Embers.  Pastor Kurt will be this year’s recipient of “The Specialty of Excellence Award” so please come vote.  Raffle tickets will also be available for $5.00.  Proceeds will benefit the Missouri Gay Rodeo Association.

We encourage you to join us for an exciting servant leadership training opportunity for 12 Monday nights at 7:00 pm beginning June 21st.  We will be learning to lead with love.  Persons who are currently leaders in our church or those who are considering following the call to leadership in our church are especially invited to attend.   The training will also serve as a basis for future lay pastors.   The training will be led by Lisa P and Rev. Kurt.  Cost is $15 for the purchase of the workbook. You must register for the classes, please see Lay Pastor Lisa P today. If you want to participate but cannot afford a book, a scholarship is available.

If you love to help other find wonderful gifts and treats while at our church, our Bookstore team is looking for more volunteers.   You must be trustworthy because of the finances involved and must like working with people who come to our church.   This ministry helps generate needed funds which are used to do ministry in our community.  If you’d like more information, stop by the bookstore today and let them know that you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Be The Light for Hope, a Faith-based peer-to-peer HIV Support Group, offers a confidential and casual atmosphere in which to address both the spiritual and emotional issues related to your health status.  Whether you are newly diagnosed or have experience living with HIV you are welcome to attend.  Meetings are held on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm at Spirit of Hope MCC.  For more information contact:  bthelight4hope@yahoo.com.

We are proud to announce that Spirit of Hope MCC became the second MCC to dedicate the sculpture piece “Illumination.”

The sculpture piece is also a fundraising tool which will allow our church to pay off the mortgage on the building and make some necessary updates to our church building.

The sculpture is crafted by an artist from Toronto Canada to represent the design that represents MCC churches which was crafted to show the work of the Spirit in the world.

It is comprised of 500 pieces that by themselves are individual and unique but together craft a vision of our mission. You can get more information about the sculpture in the brochure available at the information table in the foyer.
