Rev. Troy Perry to preach August 24th, 2008
Congratulations! You are a part of a very important history in Kansas City.
Spirit of Hope Metropolitan Community Church turns 35 years old this month.
Because you are connected to the church this celebration is about you and all of those who have come before you.
All of us have helped Spirit of Hope MCC be one of the longest and strongest community organizations for
our GLBT members, friends, allies and family members.
What birthday celebration would be complete without
birthday gifts and door prizes? We hope you consider a special gift for the church and pick up a survey of
gift/talents of our congregation members, fill it out and leave it in the birthday box in the front foyer.
Your gift of willingness to provide your skills, desire and ability to move us into the next 35 years of ministry.
Those who fill out the survey forms will be registered for a special gift package drawn on Sunday, August 31st.
In addition, at each event during the anniversary weekend you can also register for a drawing we will have on
Sunday, August 24th for an iPod Classic given in celebration of our new podcast sermons coming soon to our website.
We also ask you to consider a special birthday gift to the church of a one-time donation of $35 (or multiple like $350
or $70) to help continue the important ministries of Spirit of Hope MCC.
On Anniversary Weekend, you can attend a movie, be part of an Old Fashioned Church Social Potluck
and worship with your friends on Sunday morning in what is sure to be a packed house followed by cake and ice
cream served by the Board of Directors.
MCC was at the forefront of inclusion for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and we
are continuing on our path to create a church that operates with the Culture of Christ.
We have moved from meeting in the park, to borrowed space, to rented space, to owning our own first facility
to today’s facility.
We have responded to the AIDS crisis by creating the first successful response program which in turn has given
birth to two successful organizations in Kansas City.
We have responded to health concerns in the women’s community by creating the Lesbian Cancer Project.
We continue to be the first place that Kansas City’s GLBT community turns to when a public response is needed.
Let’s celebrate and be generous with each other by giving our church a gift of our talents, tithes and time.
We thank you for being a part of the journey.
